I just moved in with my billionaire
best friend (and secret crush),
Oliver
Humphries.
He’s the
all-star. The jock. The golden boy—
And I’m no
match.
I’m the
nerdy, frizzy-haired, not-so-skinny friend.
The moment
I met him at fourteen, I was in L-O-V-E.
I’m under
no illusion I stand a chance.
Living with
him?
Not a
problem.
In fact,
it’s a brilliant idea. I’m good at hiding my feelings.
Until I
play “Truth or Dare” with him.
Oh, good
grief!
Did I just
tell him I want him to be my first?
A sexy
friends-to-lovers romance from USA Today bestselling author Jolie Day! Come see
what happens when the alpha male and the geeky girl next door collide.
Literally. Stand-alone romance, no cliffhanger. Jolie Day is team HEA.
So many wonderful and fun characters in this romantic comedy! Oliver is a playboy and his best friend Laney is hopelessly in love with him. The women Oliver dates are of an interesting variety. They either get mad Laney is there or they ignore her while walking around mainly naked. Laney’s other best friend, Lisa, is a riot! Complete opposite of Laney, she’s loud, full of adventure, and always speaks her mind. I loved her teasing Laney about the size of Oliver’s popsicle and then the scene in the epilogue. Oliver’s brother Miles likes to give him grief but he’s playful — I loved the scene of him sitting at Oliver’s desk waiting for him to arrive at the office. Damon seems like a great friend, helping calm Oliver down and helping get him to realize his true feelings. Laney’s dad is in a few scenes and he’s funny too, always asking her if she’s with Oliver yet. All of them are great characters to have.
Laney herself is shy, she was bullied for her weight and looks in high school. She is dedicated to her work and tends to have only a few close friends. She lacks self confidence and assertion only in her personal life while being strong with her work ethic. Due to the fire where she lost everything and Lisa being out of the country at the time, Laney must go shopping on her own to begin replacing all her clothes. With an unfortunate run in with a snotty sales lady, Laney gains courage and ends up getting some very fashionable clothes. This helps with her self esteem and helps her grow stronger internally.
Oliver is outgoing, always attending new club openings, taking clients out, and partying. He practically begs Laney to go out with him to these events but she almost always declines. While Oliver comes off as a major playboy in the beginning, he really starts to clean up his act with Laney around. He doesn’t even realize he’s doing it as first, then it becomes a conscious choice. It shows growth and that he realizes all the other women were not the right ones for him. Once he finally gets that figured out, he turns into a sweet romantic.
Written from both Laney and Oliver’s point of views, the story started off a little slow. By the time I was several chapters in, I did not want to put the book down.
I received a complimentary copy of this book and am voluntarily giving an honest review
